Trailfunds Terms Of Use

Welcome to Trailfunds, a mobile app designed to facilitate donations to trail organizations through our proprietary platform. By using Trailfunds, you agree to abide by the following terms and conditions:
- Donations and payment processing: Trailfunds does not charge a platform fee on donations made to eligible trail organizations through the service. Donations are processed through Stripe (or as otherwise described in our Privacy Policy); standard payment processing costs may apply. The receiving organization receives the donation amount except for such processing costs, consistent with the organization’s payment processor agreement.
- Software subscriptions: Optional modular software subscriptions for stewardship organizations (for example, tools for reporting, events, or operations) are billed separately at the rates published or agreed for your organization. Subscription fees are not calculated as a percentage of donations. Charges are applied to the payment method you designate (for example, via Stripe) according to the billing terms presented at signup or in your account. Eligible organization accounts may include a free trial period before paid subscription billing begins, as described when you register or subscribe.
- Data Retention: User information will be retained until the end of the fiscal year if the user terminates their Trailfunds account for tax purposes.
- Receipts and Account Reconciliation: Trailfunds will send out receipts per donation and per subscription along with a summary of all donations and subscriptions at the end of the fiscal year. Batch updates will be performed to delete users at the end of the fiscal year their account was terminated by the user.
- Neutrality and Service Provision: Trailfunds operates as a neutral third party, aiming to provide a convenient service that connects trail users and trail organizations for mutual benefit.
- Charitable Platform Classification: Trailfunds is not a general-purpose crowdfunding platform. We work exclusively with verified 501(c)(3) nonprofit trail maintenance organizations. Each recipient organization is vetted, onboarded through Stripe Connect Express, and receives funds directly. We do not pool or redistribute donations, nor do we facilitate personal fundraising campaigns or sweepstakes.
- Transparency and Compliance: Trailfunds is committed to full compliance with the Stripe Services Agreement, IRS guidelines for charitable giving, and all applicable regulations. Our operations are built to maintain donor confidence and to ensure transparency in every transaction.
- Merchant of Record: Each trail organization is the merchant of record for donations made through our platform. This means that when you make a donation, you are transacting directly with the trail organization, not with Trailfunds. The trail organization's name will appear on your billing statement and receipts. Trailfunds provides software and connectivity to facilitate donations and related stewardship operations and does not retain a platform fee from donations.
By using Trailfunds, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by these terms and conditions. Failure to comply with these terms may result in the termination of your Trailfunds account.
